Titans nipped on the road

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Sophomore Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) posted a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Westminster College men's basketball squad in Wednesday night's 77-73 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) setback at Grove City College. 

Grove City improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the league with Wednesday's win. Westminster fell to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in PAC play. 

DePietro finished 7-of-9 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. He had 14 first half points. The 22 points were a season high. Wednesday was DePietro's first double-double of the season. 

Senior Reese Leone (Beloit, Ohio, West Branch) finished with 17 points and six assists. It was his fifth-straight game in double figures. Sophomore Quincy Jones (Youngstown, Ohio, Chaney) added 14 points and seven boards. Senior Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio, Springfield Local) chipped in with nine points and three rebounds. 

Fueled by a 10-0 scoring run, Westminster jumped out to a 14-5 lead eight minutes into the first. Grove City followed with a 12-0 run to grab a 17-14 lead with just over six minutes to go in the half. Westminster carried a four-point lead, 33-29, into halftime. 

Leone's jumper with 4:46 remaining trimmed Grove City's lead down to two, 63-61. Five-straight points by Chase Yarberough pushed the Wolverines' lead back to seven, 68-61, with just under four minutes left in regulation. Jones' layup with two minutes to play trimmed the deficit to three, 72-69. Sophomore Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) buried a three-pointer with 57 seconds left to cut the Wolverines' lead to one, 74-73. Yarberough connected on 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to secure the four-point win. 

Yarberough and Mike Christenson each scored 22 points for Grove City. 

Grove City finished with a 45-44 rebounding edge. Sixteen of Westminster's boards were on the offensive glass. Grove City had a 21-6 advantage in bench points. The Wolverines made 7-of-14 (.500) three-point field goal attempts, while Westminster was limited to 3-of-23 (.130). 

Westminster hosts Thiel College Saturday. Tipoff at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is slated for 3:30 p.m.
