Leone drains game-winning 3 in OT to clip Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior Reese Leone (Beloit, Ohio, West Branch) drained a game-winning three-point field goal with two seconds remaining in overtime to defeat visiting Waynesburg University 67-66 Tuesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the PAC. Waynesburg fell to 3-2 and 1-1 in the league. Tuesday was Westminster's 10th-straight win against Waynesburg.

Tied 59-59 at the end of regulation, Waynesburg grabbed a four-point overtime lead, 66-62, when Antone Baker split a pair of free throws with 12 seconds to play. After a Westminster timeout, freshman Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) scored on a driving layup to cut the lead to two, 66-64, with five seconds left. Waynesburg's five-second violation, which followed another Titan timeout, handed the ball back to Westminster, and Leone buried the game-winner off of an assist from classmate Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio, Springfield Local).

Sophomore Quincy Jones (Youngstown, Ohio, Chaney) led all scorers Tuesday with 19 points. He was 8-of-16 from the field and added seven rebounds two blocked shots and a pair of steals. Leone finished with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. He has scored in double figures in the last four games. Sophomore Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) added nine points and a season-high 10 rebounds while Hergenrother chipped in with nine points, five boards, three assists and three steals. 

Jaylen Davis and Baker both had double-doubles for Waynesburg. Davis finished with 17 points, 14 points and three blocked shots while Baker had 13 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots. 

Westminster, down 59-53 with just under two minutes to go in the second, scored the final six points in regulation to force overtime. Sophomore Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) hit a pair of three-pointers down the stretch. He finished with eight points.

Westminster shot 40.3 percent (25-62) from the floor and hit a season-high seven three-pointers in Tuesday's win (7-17, .412). Westminster's bench outscored Waynesburg 27-11. The Yellow Jackets finished with a 42-39 edge in rebounding. 

Westminster will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at conference rival Grove City College. Tipoff at the Grove City College Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
