Westminster women edge Saint Vincent on road

LATROBE, Pa.--Fifth-year Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) fired in a season-high 21 points for the Westminster College women's basketball team in Saturday afternoon's 69-63 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Saint Vincent. 

Westminster evened its record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. Saint Vincent fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

Murrio paced all scorers Saturday with her 21 points. She finished 5-of-10 from the field and went 10-of-15 from the free throw line. Murrio added five rebounds. Senior Caitlyn Condoleon (Warren, Ohio, Warren JFK) had a season-high 12 points and three rebounds and fifth-year Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio, Ursuline) posted a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double. Junior Emily Hess (Edinboro, Pa., General McLane) finished with a season-high eight rebounds. 

Up by two, 65-63, with 25 seconds left in regulation Murrio hit a pair of free throws that stretched Westminster's lead to four before she drilled two more free throws with under five seconds to play to go up six.

Westminster jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead on back-to-back buckets by Murrio and led 12-8 going into the second. The Titans had a 14-11 rebounding advantage through the first 10 minutes, which included seven offensive boards. Senior Mariah Vincent (Franklin, Pa., Kennedy Catholic) drilled a pair of three-pointers in the second and finished the half with eight points, helping the Titans to a 25-24 lead at halftime. Seven players scored for the Titans in the first half. Murrio and Condoleon combined for 12 of the Titans' 22 third quarter points to help the visitors grab a 47-44 lead after three. Murrio had seven in the third while Condoleon added five. Murrio finished with 11 points in the fourth. 

The Westminster bench outscored Saint Vincent 24-10. The Titans finished with a 46-29 advantage on the glass. Fourteen of their 46 rebounds were offensive.

Emily Thompson led three Saint Vincent players in double figures with 17 points. 

Westminster opens its home schedule Tuesday against Waynesburg. Tipoff at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
