Westminster falls to Mount Union in Teammates for Life title game

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Westminster College women's basketball team suffered a 67-49 loss to the University of Mount Union Sunday after in the tittle game of the Teammates for Life Tip-off Tournament, which was hosted this year by Kalamazoo College.

Westminster fell to 1-1 this season while Mount Union improved to 3-0. 

Leading 16-6 after a quarter, Mount Union scored the first five points of the second to stretch its lead to 21-6. A 9-0 spurt by Westminster cut the deficit to 10, 35-25, with three minutes left in the half. Sophomore Gracie Schill (Rootstown, Ohio, Akron Hoban) keyed the scoring run with six of the Titans' nine points. 

Mount Union led 39-25 at halftime. 

The Purple Raiders led by 16, 51-35, after three. Senior Mariah Vincent (Franklin Pike, Pa., Kennedy Catholic) and graduate student Camden Hergenrother (Salem, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) each made a three-pointer in the period. 

Westminster shot 30.2 percent (19-63) from the field hit 5-of-22 (.227) three-point field goal attempts. Mount Union outrebounded Westminster 41-40. 

Hergenrother was the lone Westminster player in double figures. She finished with 14 points and three rebounds. Schill added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting with three rebounds in 11 minutes. Fifth-year Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) had eight points and six boards.

Murrio and Schill were both named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Elizabeth Mason led Mount Union with 20 points and five rebounds. 

Westminster opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
