Westminster women score season-opening win over Manchester

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Westminster College women's basketball team cruised to a 67-52 season-opening victory over Manchester University in the "Teammates for Life" Tipoff Saturday afternoon. 

Fifth-year Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) paced four players in double figures. She finished with 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting and went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Murrio added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Senior Caitlyn Condoleon (Warren, Ohio, Warren JFK) had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists while junior Emily Hess (Edinboro, Pa., General McLane) and freshman Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) added 11 points apiece. Hess was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor.

Westminster shot 45.1 percent (23-51) from the field and made 16-of-19 (.842) free throws. Manchester was held to just 29.1 percent shooting (16-55). The Titans finished with a 43-26 rebounding advantage. 

Up 23-12 after the first quarter, Westminster's lead swelled to 19 (48-29) going into halftime. Arison knocked down three three-pointers in the period. The Titans stretched their lead to 22 (61-39) after three before going up by as many as 25 (67-42) in the fourth. The Spartans closed the game on a 10-0 run.

Mia Shields led Manchester with 13 points. Madison Stamm added 11. 

Westminster will face Mount Union in Saturday's title game. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Kalamazoo's Anderson Athletic Center.
