Titans roll to 42-7 Homecoming victory over Bethany

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College football team racked up 459 yards of total offense and forced a pair of turnovers in Saturday's 42-7 Homecoming victory over Bethany before a crowd of 3,812 at Memorial Field inside Harold Burry Stadium.

Westminster improved to 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Bethany fell to 0-5 in the league. The Titans are 9-2 in their last 11 Homecoming games and have won nine-straight games against Bethany. 

Ty McGowan (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) completed 19-of-25 passes for a season-high 213 yards and career-best four touchdowns. He also rushed three times for 21 yards. 

Chevy Dawson (Port St. Lucie, Fla., Centennial) caught a pair of touchdown passes. He scored on an 8-yard pass from McGowan with under five minutes to go in the first quarter that gave the Titans a 14-0 lead before stretching the lead to 42-0 with a 5-yard scoring grab with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. Dawson's fourth quarter score capped a 12-play, 80 yard drive. Taite Beachy (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) caught four passes for 50 yards and had a 20-yard touchdown grab with just over five minutes to go in the opening half. Beachy's touchdown capped a 10-play, 98-yard drive. Jalen Washington (Orlando, Fla., Dr. Phillips) finished with three catches for 49 yards and scored on a 13-yard pass from McGowan with under 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Dawson has four receiving touchdowns this season while Beachy has three. It was Washington's first score of the season. 

Westminster led Bethany 28-0 at halftime.

Ryan Gomes (Tampa, Fla., Walter L. Sickles) rushed 17 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. He added two catches for 41 yards. Gomes opened the scoring with a 3-yard plunge with under 10 minutes to go in the first quarter and scored from three yards out with under a minute to go in the first half. In last year's 42-3 win over Bethany, Gomes finished with 30 carries for 183 yards and a touchdown. Elijah Grayer (Monee, Ill., Crete-Monee) ran nine times for 63 yards.

The Titans rushed for a season-high 246 yards and had 25 first downs (12 rush, 12 pass, 1 penalty). Westminster had almost a 10-minute edge in time of possession. The Titans scored on all six red zone chances.

Matthew Petruzzi (Allison Park, Pa., Central Catholic) had five tackles (2 solo). Carter Chinn (Grove City, Pa., Grove City) finished with four tackles (3 solo) and a sack while Dylan Sleva (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) forced a fumble to go along with four tackles (2 solo). Kaalen Teixeira (Miami, Fla., Felix Varela) posted four tackles (4 solo) while Solomon Davis (Ashburn, Va., Stone Bridge) logged four stops (3 solo) and 2.0 tackles for loss. Terry Miller (Titusville, Fla., Titusville) finished with three tackles (3 solo) and snagged his first career interception in the fourth quarter.

The Titans held Bethany to 98 passing yards and 231 total yards. The Bison were just 3-of-13 on third down conversions.  

Bethany's Luke Hilyard ran seven times for 30 yards. He scored on an 8-yard run with just over two minutes to play. Miles Goffe entered in the third quarter for Bison and rushed six times for 32 yards. He also completed 5-of-12 passes for 61 yards and had one interception.

Westminster will travel to DiSanto Field in Cleveland next Saturday to take on Case Western Reserve. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
