Westminster falls in five at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball team suffered a five-set loss to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jefferson Friday night at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.

Westminster fell to 11-7 overall and 1-1 in the PAC. It was their first five-set match of the season. W&J improved to 8-9 overall. Friday was the Presidents' league opener. 

W&J opened up a 2-0 lead after winning the first and second sets 25-20. Westminster responded with a 27-25 third set win and battled back to win 25-21 in the fourth. The Presidents trailed just once in the fifth, an early 1-0 deficit, before securing the 15-11 win. 

Senior Natalie Franke (Centerville, Pa., Union City) hit .250 with a career-high 19 kills. Senior Lauren Lampus (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) and Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) both registered double-doubles. Lampus had 10 kills and a season-high 21 digs while Brady finished with 11 kills and 10 digs. Junior Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) totaled 11 kills. 

Sophomore Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) and senior Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, Pa., Ellwood City) each had seven kills. Rambo registered nine total blocks while Grinnen added three. 

Senior Malia Duffy (Allison Park, Pa., North Allegheny) finished with a season-best 33 digs. Senior Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, Mich., Lakeview) had a season-high 14 digs.

Senior Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) recorded a season-high 28 assists and 13 digs while freshman Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) posted a career-high 19 assists and nine digs.

Westminster hosts Grove City Tuesday at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The opening serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
