Westminster wins five-setter against Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster College senior Lauren Lampus (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) had a 15-kill, 17-dig double-double during Tuesday night's five-set win over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Grove City at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster ran its season record to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in the league. Grove City fell to 15-7 overall and 1-2 in the PAC. Tuesday was the Titans' first five-set win of the season.

Tuesday was Lampus' fourth double-double this year. She finished with a .241 hitting percentage.

Four different players finished with eight kills. Sophomore Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) finished with eight kills and six blocks while classmate Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) had eight kills, 17 digs and four blocks. Senior Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, Pa., Ellwood City) totaled eight kills, eight digs and four blocks. Junior Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) added eight kills. 

Sophomore Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Ellwood City) had 20 assists and nine digs. Senior Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) had an 18-assist, 13-dig double-double. 

Senior Malia Duffy (Allison Park, Pa., North Allegheny) recorded a season-high 43 digs. Senior Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, Mich., Lakeview) had a career-high 21 digs. 

Grove City jumped out to an early lead with a 25-20 victory in the opening set. Westminster posted a 25-20 second set win and 25-23 victory in the third set to go up 2-1, but the Wolverines claimed a 25-18 fourth set win to force a fifth and deciding set. The Titan, trailing 10-5, rattled off five-straight points to even the set at 10-10. Back-to-back kills by Grinnen and Brady secured the two-point set win. 

Alexis Standford had 19 kills in 42 swings with a .357 hitting percentage for Grove City. Julia Fisher had 57 digs. 

Westminster hosts Waynesburg Thursday. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
