Westminster takes 3-1 league win at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio--The Westminster College women's soccer team notched a 3-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Franciscan Wednesday afternoon. 

Westminster, No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches latest Region VII rankings, improved to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the PAC. Franciscan fell to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the league. 

All three of Westminster's goals came in the first half. Freshman Chloe LaRosa (Tyrone, Pa., Tyrone) scored 18 seconds in off an assist from senior Sophia Galietta (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park). In the 39th minute, junior Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) scored an unassisted goal and sophomore Ashley Horvath (Houston, Pa., Charters-Houston) netted a goal in the 41st minute off the foot of junior Natalie Vilchek (West Newton, Pa., Yough). 

LaRosa has scored 13 goals in 11 matches, and has the first goal in eight of those. Brooke Horvath's goal was her 10th of the season. Vilchek has four assists this year.  

Tania Davidson scored the lone goal for Franciscan in the 52nd minute.

Sophomore Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) was credited with seven saves, bringing her season total to 42. 

Westminster outshot Franciscan 24-17 and also had more shots on goal (10-8). Franciscan had an 8-2 edge on corner kicks. 

Westminster will host Alfred Saturday at the UPMC Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
