Westminster wins 9-0 against Thiel

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team secured a 9-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over Thiel Monday afternoon. 

Westminster, winners of five-straight matches, improved to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Thiel fell to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the PAC. 

Sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) and junior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) improved to 7-2 this season with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) and junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and junior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) pushed their season record to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the league after scoring an 8-1 No. 3 doubles win.

Rossi won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Valone claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Fox won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to move to 10-1 this season. Overlingas has won nine-straight matches and improved to 10-1 after a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles. Freshman Morgan Allen (Johnstown, Pa., Westmont Hilltop) improved to 4-0 after scoring a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) won at No. 6 singles with a score of 6-0, 6-2. 

Westminster will be back in action Friday when it hosts defending PAC champion Allegheny. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
