Lewis' brace keys regular season finale win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Sophomore Amanda Lewis (Slippery Rock, Pa., Slippery Rock) helped guide the Westminster College women's soccer team to a 5-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over visiting Bethany Wednesday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex with her second brace of the season.

Westminster concludes its regular season with 14-3 record and an 8-2 mark in the PAC. Bethany wrapped up its year with a 3-10-3 overall record and a 2-8 record in the conference. 

The six-team PAC Championship Tournament begins Saturday, Oct. 28 with quarterfinal action. The tournament winner will receive the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which begins the following week. Grove City is the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular season with a 12-4-1 overall record and a 9-0-1 league record. Westminster will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Both Grove City and Westminster earned quarterfinal byes. 

Westminster broke through in the 18th minute, when Lewis scored off of an assist from junior Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional). Junior Lydia Ohm (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Hills) extended the lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute. Horvath assisted Ohm's goal. Junior Erin Fosgreen (Jackson, N.J., Jackson Memorial) scored her first goal of the year in the 42nd minute off of an assist from junior Gabby Hunter (New Baltimore, Mich., Anchor Bay) to give the Titans a 3-0 advantage. The goal was the first for Fosgreen since scoring in a win over Bethany on Oct. 6, 2021.

Bethany's Brionna Bash scored a penalty kick goal in the 52nd minute. 

Lewis registered her second goal of the match in the 52nd minute. It was her fifth of the year. Horvath added a goal in the 66th minute and finished the match with four points (1G, 2A). She is second on the team with 32 points (11G, 10A).  

Jordan Palmer scored an unassisted goal for Bethany in the 67th minute. 

Westminster finished with a 23-8 edge in shots, including 11 shots on goal to Bethany's four. Westminster had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. 

Sophomore Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) made one save in the first half to improve to 13-3 this season. Junior Lauren Gross (Lewisburg, Pa., Lewisburg) surrendered a pair of goals and had a save in the second half. 

Corinne Grabow finished with six saves for Bethany. 

Westminster will host either No. 3 Saint Vincent or No. 6 Franciscan (7-7-1, 5-4-1) next Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
