Titans eliminated in semifinal round

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The second-seeded Westminster College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to No. 6 Franciscan in the semifinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Franciscan (8-7-2) earned a spot in this year's title match with its victory over Westminster and will travel to top-seed Grove City (13-4-1) Saturday. Grove City was a 3-1 winner over No. 5 Waynesburg (9-7-2) in Wednesday's other semifinal.

Gabriella De La Torre gave Franciscan a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Elise Winogradoff assisted on De La Torre's score, her fourth of the year.

Junior Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) evened the match in the 22nd minute with her 12th goal of the season. Junior Natalie Vilchek (West Newton, Pa., Yough) assisted on Horvath's goal. 

Tied 1-1 at the half, Juliana Rubino scored the eventual game-winner in the 60th minute. The goal was her 11th of the year. 

Franciscan outshot Westminster 14-13 and had a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. The Barons also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. 

Sophomore Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) finished with seven saves. Rebekka Dill had four saves for Franciscan.

Westminster finished its season 14-4.
