Men's soccer tops Thiel in PAC play

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer team claimed a 3-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field.

Westminster is now 4-8-4 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference. Thiel dropped to 1-12-3 overall and 0-7-2 in the PAC. 

Thiel's Hunter Blatt scored the opening goal in the 12th minute. Junior Connor Schmidt (Evans City, Pa., Seneca Valley) scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute and another off the feet of junior Lucas Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant) and senior Jacob Steinbeck (Windber, Pa., Windber) in the 64th minute. Schmidt added another goal in the 81st off of an assist from freshman Max Letchworth (Lugoff, S.C., Lugoff-Elgin)

Thiel's Tyler Davy scored an unassisted goal in the 90th minute to close out the scoring. 

Saturday was Schmidt's first career hat trick. He has five goals this season. 

Westminster had an 11-5 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had two corner kicks. 

Westminster will conclude the regular season Wednesday against Bethany. Kickoff at the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
