Titans drop a pair Saturday

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of setbacks Saturday at Allegheny's David V. Wise Center. 

Westminster opened the day with a five-set Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to host Allegheny (26-28, 26-24, 16-25, 25-12, 15-17). The Titans lost in four sets to non-conference foe Wooster (22-25, 25-21, 27-29, 19-25) later in the afternoon.

Westminster fell to 12-10 overall and 2-3 in league play. Allegheny, winners of three straight, is now 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the PAC. They are 9-2 at home this season. Saturday was the Gators' fourth-straight victory over the Titans. Wooster, after its straight-set loss to Allegheny in the nightcap, is 7-11.

Sophomore Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) finished with 10 kills, six blocks and five digs to lead the Titans against Allegheny. It was her eighth match this season with 10-plus kills. Sophomore Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) had nine kills on .563 hitting. She added six blocks. Seniors Lauren Lampus (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) and Natalie Franke (Centerville, Pa., Union City) finished with eight kills each while senior Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, Pa., Ellwood City) had seven kills and a career-high 10 blocks. Sophomore Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Ellwood City) registered an 18-assist, 10-dig double-double, while senior Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) totaled 21 assists and five digs. Senior Malia Duffy (Allison Park, Pa., North Allegheny) finished with 32 digs, her third match this season with 30 or more digs.

Lampus tied her season high with 15 kills against Wooster. She also had 11 digs. Brady finished with nine kills and three blocks while Franke added eight kills and pair of digs. Sophomore Jamie Robertson (Lake Balboa, Calif., Palisades Charter) and junior Elise Jordan (Key Largo, Fla., Coral Shores) finished with five and four blocks, respectively. Robertson and Jordan each chipped in with four kills apiece. Grinnen totaled five kills, three blocks and six digs. Nardone posted her seventh double-double of the year against Wooster, going for 21 assist and 13 digs. Freshman Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) had 17 assists. Duffy posted 26 digs while senior Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, Mich., Lakeview) had 15.

Westminster will host Chatham Wednesday at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
