Westminster tops Franciscan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's basketball team cruised to an 82-53 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over visiting Franciscan Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Saturday was Westminster's (10-4, 8-1 PAC) sixth-straight league win. 

Twelve players scored for Westminster. Junior Reese Leone (Beloit, Ohio | West Branch) finished with a team-high 12 points to go along with  three assists. He went 4-of-6 from the floor and was 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Senior Jordan Zupko (Mineral Ridge, Ohio | Mineral Ridge) had 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting, going 2-of-2 on three-point tries. 

Senior Tyler James (Youngstown, Ohio | Warren JFK) added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds while senior Austin O'Hara (Girard, Ohio | Girard) chipped in with nine points and four boards. Freshman Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio | Boardman) also posted nine points and four rebounds. 

Westminster shot 53.3 percent (32-60) from the floor and finished 12-of-16 (75.0%) from the free throw line. The Titans knocked down 6-of-20 (30.0%) three-point field goal attempts. Westminster outrebounded Franciscan 38-26. 

The Titans got things going early, jumping out to an 15-0 lead at the 14:53 mark of the first half. Franciscan cut the lead to eight, 22-14, with just under 10 minutes to go before Westminster closed the half on a 19-7 scoring run to carry a 41-21 lead into the break. 

Freshman Steve Antuono (Ellwood City, Pa. | Ellwood City) stretched the Titans' lead to 31, 75-44, with a made three-pointer at the 4:13 mark of the second half. 

Aidan Hickey's 18 points led Franciscan (4-10, 1-8 PAC). 

Westminster will travel to Allegheny Wednesday. Tipoff at the David V. Wise Center in Meadville is scheduled for 7 p.m.
