Westminster women drop conference tilt at Chatham

PITTSBURGH--The Westminster College women's basketball team dropped a 55-48 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Chatham Thursday night. 

Senior Camden Hergenrother (Salem, Ohio | Cardinal Mooney) paced Westminster (9-4, 6-2 PAC) with a game-high 18 points. Junior Mariah Vincent (Franklin, Pa. | Kennedy Catholic) added 12 points. Senior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio | Ursuline) chipped in with seven points and a game-best 17 rebounds. For Bell, it was her seventh-straight game with 11 or more rebounds. She is currently fourth in the league with a 10.5 rebounds per game average. 

Chatham (7-4, 4-3 PAC) charged out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter, fueled by a 10-0 scoring run midway through the period. Westminster outscored Chatham 12-8 in the second and trailed 30-21 at the break. 

The Cougars pushed their lead to 15, 40-25, with just under six minutes to go in the third and held a 45-31 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. 

Fueled by a 10-0 run to start the fourth, Westminster managed to trim the deficit to four, 45-41, with just over five to play. Hergenrother and Vincent combined for all 10 Titan points during the stretch. Vincent's three-pointer with nine seconds remaining in regulation trimmed the Chatham lead to five, 53-48. 

Ashley Louden led Chatham with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. 

Westminster committed 22 turnovers in Thursday's defeat which Chatham turned into 19 points. The Titans finished with a commanding 50-38 rebounding advantage. 

Westminster shot 34.5 percent (19-55) from the floor and 35.0 percent (7-20) from three-point range. The Titans made 3-of-5 (60.0%) free throw attempts. Chatham shot 29.0 percent (20-69) from the field and 22.6 percent (7-31) on its three-point field goal attempts. 

Westminster returns to action on Saturday against Franciscan. Tipoff at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
