Westminster claims league win over Franciscan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Sparked by a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double by senior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio | Ursuline), the Westminster College women's basketball team earned a 59-31 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over Franciscan Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

The double-double was Bell's fifth this season.

Senior Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Brentwood) added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Junior Katie Fitzpatrick (Cumberland Center, Maine | Greely) finished with seven points, 10 rebounds and five assists while junior Mariah Vincent (Franklin, Pa. | Kennedy Catholic) chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. 

Westminster (10-4, 6-3 PAC) posted a 59-31 edge in rebounding and limited Franciscan (2-11, 1-8 PAC) to just 16.4 percent (11-67) shooting. Westminster scored 19 points off 15 Franciscan turnovers and outscored the Barons in the paint 42-14.  

Up 17-5 after one quarter, Westminster scored six-straight points to go up by 18, 23-5, three minutes into the second. The Titans held the Barons to two points in the second, and scoreless over the last 2:54, to take a 29-7 lead into halftime.

A 7-2 surge with just over three minutes to go in the third pushed Westminster's lead to 27, 46-19, going into the fourth. 

Westminster's fourth quarter lead swelled to as many as 30 before securing the 28-point win. 

Felicia MacGillivray had eight points, three rebounds and three steals for Franciscan. Sophie LaRose totaled eight rebounds. 

Westminster hosts Allegheny Wednesday at 6 p.m.
