Westminster women fall at home to Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball team was dealt a 63-48 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss by Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Saint Vincent, winners of nine straight, led wire-to-wire on Saturday to move its record to 13-3 overall and 11-2 in league play. Westminster fell to 11-7 overall and 7-6 in the PAC. 

Senior Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Brentwood) finished with 16 points and three rebounds to lead Westminster. Senior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio | Ursuline) totaled eight points and eight rebounds while junior Katie Fitzpatrick (Cumberland Center, Maine | Greely) added seven points and seven boards. Junior Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio | Streetsboro) posted five points and five rebounds in 16 reserve minutes. 

Emily Thompson scored a game-high 21 points for Saint Vincent. 

Trailing 19-8 after the opening quarter, Murrio hit a pair of free throws with just over a minute remaining in the second to cut the deficit to seven, 27-20. Saint Vincent carried a 29-20 into the half.

The Bearcats opened the third quarter with an 18-5 scoring run and grabbed a 27-25 lead on Thompson's jump shot with just over three to go in the quarter. Saint Vincent outscored Westminster 26-8 in the third to take a 55-28 lead into the fourth. The Bearcats shot 55.6 percent (10-18) from the floor in the third and hit 3-of-4 three-point field goal attempts. Westminster went 2-of-12 (16.7%) in the third. 

Saint Vincent extended its fourth quarter lead to as many as 30, 58-28, before claiming the 15-point victory. 


Westminster forced 13 Saint Vincent turnovers while committing a season-low eight turnovers. Saint Vincent finished shooting 40.3 percent (25-62) from the floor while Westminster finished the game 17-of-57 (29.8%) from the field. Saint Vincent posted a 43-32 edge on the glass. 

Westminster will travel to Grove City College on Saturday, January 28. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
