Softball: Titans Earn Pair of Imposing Wins

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Westminster softball team earned a pair of wins to continue its strong showing in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic Thursday afternoon. The Titans won, 14-0, against Wilson College and then won, 12-2, against Mount Aloysius.
 
In game one, Westminster (6-1) went up 4-0 after junior Emma Gurley's (Painesville, OH / Gilmore Academy) single brought sophomore Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) across home plate. The Titans' offense continued to roll and their defense conducted a no-hitter. Malczak pitched a no-hitter in her four-inning appearance, followed by junior Abbegail Froehlich (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum), who pitching in relief during the fifth inning and tallied a strikeout.
 
After the first three innings of game two went scoreless, Westminster rattled off four runs in the fourth. The Titans added on eight more runs in the sixth to secure the victory. On the mound, senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) earned the win with a game-best seven strikeouts.
 
Westminster was led by junior Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary), who went a combined 4-for-6 with four runs-batted-in. Malczak went 3-for-3 in game one with a three runs-batted-in (tying a career-high). Gurley went a combined 4-for-6 with two runs-batted-in. Sophomore Tori Bowersock (Lisbon, OH / Lisbon David Anderson) registered her first career run-batted-in against Wilson (4-5-1).
 
The Titans return to action Friday, March 18 against Mansfield at 9:30 a.m. and then compete against Albertus Magnus at 11:30 a.m.
