WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster women's basketball team won, 58-57, off a buzz-beater on the road against Waynesburg in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) classic Saturday night.
"Our keys were to keep our composure after they took the lead in the fourth quarter," said head coach
Rosanne Scott. "We answered back with some big shots, but we needed to get some big stops and we did."
As Waynesburg (4-17, 4-11 PAC) held a 57-55 lead with four seconds remaining in the game, junior
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) connected with a three-pointer as time expired. Junior
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) found Hergenrother on the wing for the game-winner.
"The play in the last second was to go for the win," said Scott. "A wise coach once told me to go for the win so that was the plan all along, a quick flare for Camden."
After the first half, Westminster (14-7, 11-4 PAC) claimed a 28-23 lead at halftime.
Hergenrother registered games-high with 25 points and five steals. Murrio tallied a double-double with 19 points and a team-best 10 boards. Senior
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) chipped in with five points and four rebounds. Sophomore
Mariah Vincent (Franklin, PA / Kennedy Catholic) recorded five points.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday, February 16 as they compete against Grove City on the road in a conference contest. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
