Titans fall at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--The Westminster College men's basketball team was dealt a 117-65 loss at Youngstown State Thursday night at the Beeghly Center. 

Westminster (6-2) was led by junior Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio | Springfield Local), who finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio | West Branch) totaled 11 points and two assists while sophomore Peyton Mele (Hermitage, Pa. | Hickory) chipped in with nine points, five boards and a pair of assists. 

Senior Austin O'Hara (Girard, Ohio | Girard) cut the Youngstown State lead to nine, 20-11, with a jumper at the 12:06 mark of the first half. The Penguins closed the first half riding a 21-9 run to take a 51-22 lead into the break. 

A 14-0 surge midway through the second pushed the Penguins' lead to 46, 82-36, with 9:43 remaining in regulation. 

Youngstown State (7-3) finished the game shooting 52.9 percent (46-87) from the floor and made 16-of-39 (41.0%) three-point field goals. The Penguins outrebounded the Titans 58-35 in the game and turned 17 Titan turnovers into 32 points.

Westminster finished the game shooting 36.0 percent (27-75) from the floor and hit 11-of-33 (33.3%) three-point attempts. 

John Lovelace, Jr. led six Youngstown State players in double figures, finishing with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Bryce McBride registered an 11-point, 10-rebound, 15-assist triple-double in the win. 

Westminster steps back into Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Tuesday, December 13 at Bethany. Tip-off at Joe Kurey Memorial Court in Hummel Field House is scheduled for 5 p.m.
