DePietro posts 27-point, 16-rebound double-double in come-from-behind win at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va.--Freshman Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio | Boardman) led the Westminster College men's basketball team in Tuesday's 78-77 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) triumph at Bethany with a 27-point, 16-rebound double-double.

His 27 points and 16 boards were both collegiate highs.

DePietro finished 9-of-13 from the floor and made all nine of his attempts from the free throw line. He added four blocked shots and a pair of steals. DePietro's 22 blocked shots currently rank third in the league.

DePietro led four Westminster players in double figures. Classmate Bobby Ray (Jefferson, Ohio | Jefferson) totaled 18 points and six boards while senior Austin O'Hara (Girard, Ohio | Girard) added 15 points and six rebounds. Junior Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio | Springfield Local) finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Westminster (7-2, 5-1 PAC) led by as many as eight in the first half and took a 41-36 lead into the break. DePietro paced the Titans with 10 first half points.

An O'Hara layup pushed the Titans' lead to 10, 52-42, with 14:31 left in regulation. Bethany outscored Westminster 30-7 over the next six-plus minutes to go up 13, 72-59, with under eight minutes to play.

Clark helped Westminster erase the 13-point deficit with his and-one play, capping a 17-3 Westminster spurt and giving the visitors a 78-77 lead with 20 seconds remaining.

Tony Fox led Bethany (0-9, 0-7 PAC) with a career-high 22 points in 25 reserve minutes. Fifty-two of Bethany's points were bench points.

Westminster shot 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor and finished with a commanding 46-28 edge on the boards.

Westminster will participate in the Kent State-Tuscarawas Christmas Tournament Wednesday-Thursday, December 21-22. The Titans will face Miami-Hamilton on Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. before taking on the host Golden Eagles at 2 p.m. on Dec. 22.
