Box Score NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Tyler Caterino connected for a pair of goals, as Westminster College men's soccer squad secured a 4-0 shutout of Thiel on Saturday at The UPMC Sports Complex.
In a matinee Senior Day doubleheader, Westminster women won over Thiel, 8-0, to complete the sweep for Titans' taskmaster Girish Thakar.
Graduate student forward Caterino (Monessen, Pa./Monessen High) tallied goals at the 41:06 and 58:08 marks for Westminster. Sophomore midfielder Lucas Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant High), assisted by Caterino, scored the first goal at 31:12, and junior forward Jacob Steinbeck (Windber, Pa./Windber High) – also assisted by Caterino – garnered a goal at the 52:01 juncture.
Caterino's goals were assisted by Toohey and senior forward Ivan Mojica (Santa Rosa, Calif./Elsie Allen High).
Westminster (4-3-2 PAC, 9-5-2 overall) out-shot the visiting Tomcats, 21-6 (11-1 in shots on goal; 10-1 in corner kicks).
Senior goalkeeper Jad Jadallah (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield High) made 1 save in 80:27, and sophomore John Menefee (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant High) preserved the shutout with 9:33 of goalkeeping.
For Thiel (2-8-0, 1-14-0), Nick Kristian made 7 saves in goal.
In the women's match, sophomore forward Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional High) had a pair of goals to lead the Titans to their 5th consecutive win and 9th triumph in the last 10 tilts.
Also garnering goals for Westminster (8-1 PAC, 12-3-1 overall) were senior midfielder Julia Redilla (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley High), sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Powell (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford High), first-year forward Ashley Horvath (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston High), first-year midfielder Megan Leary (Pittsburgh/Baldwin High), and sophomore midfielder Natalie Vilchek (West Newton, Pa./Yough High). Redilla (2), senior forward Sophia Kaplan (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor High), first-year forward Amanda Lewis (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock High) and sophomore forward Marissa Jimenez (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs High) were credited with assists.
First-year standout Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie), sophomore Lauren Gross (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg High), and first-year Maura Mahoney (Richmond, Va./Monacan High) took turns in goal. Samantha Hoffman made 11 saves in goal in 90 minutes for Thiel (0-9, 2-11)
Westminster women and men will travel to Bethany, W.Va. for a PAC twin bill beginning at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m, respectively, on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
