Women’s Basketball: Titans Defeat Reigning PAC Champ Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster women's basketball team won, 57-32, against the defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champion Saint Vincent on the road Wednesday night, snapping a 14-game skid against the Bearcats.

The 25-point win was the largest margin of victory against Saint Vincent for Westminster since winning, 77-45, on Dec. 1, 2007.

Westminster (7-5, 4-2 PAC) jumped out to an early 8-2 lead with 4:33 left in the first quarter. By the start of the second quarter, the Titans lead (10-8) increased to 18-13 after a jumper from senior Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin). Westminster held a slight lead (18-16) at intermission.

The Westminster defense continued to cause problems for Saint Vincent (2-6, 1-3 PAC) as the Bearcats only scored five points in the third interval. The second half was highlighted by a 13-0 run by the Titans in the third quarter to take a 42-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Westminster finished the game on 13-3 run and cruised to victory.

Titan junior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline) led the charge with a game-high 17 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a career-high three steals, followed by classmate Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals.  Junior Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds. First-year Emily Hess (Edinboro, PA / General McLane) scored a career-best eight points to go along with six boards.

Westminster is back in action Saturday, January 15 as it hosts Bethany in PAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
