HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team lost, 2-1, to the Juniata College Eagles on Saturday.
Juniata gained an early advantage over the Titans when Blake Cassel scored the first goal during the two-minute mark. As the first half rolled on, junior
Ivan Mojica (Santa Rosa, CA / Elsie Allen) found graduate student
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy), exactly at the 20-minute mark, for a goal that would not be denied. Both teams were deadlocked as the first half came to an end with the score 1-1.
As the second half kicked off, both defenses picked up where they left off, denying the opposition a clear opportunity to score. A stalemate seemed to be in order as the second half was nearing an end, however during the 74th minute, Emmett Young was able to score for the Eagles, in what would be the deciding goal of the game.
Westminster outshot Juniata (11-8) and bested them in shots-on-goal (5-4). The Titans also had the advantage in corner kicks (8-5).
Westminster is back in action on Sunday, September 5 at home against Point Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
