LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team swept both of their matches in day one of the Bearcat Challenge, hosted by Saint Vincent, on Friday.
In the Titans' first shutout over Allegheny (25-14, 25-17, 25-13), senior
Maya Steward (Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) tied a match-high with a team-high 10 kills, followed by classmate
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) and sophomore
Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) with nine kills each. Adelman added a match-best four aces. Senior
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a match-high 31 assists. Steward and sophomore
Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) led the defense with 14 and 11 digs, respectively. Sophomore
Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, PA / Lincoln) totaled a match-high two blocks.
Westminster closed out the night with a blanking of Hiram (25-19, 25-21, 25-15). Adelman led all scorers with 13 kills, followed by Steward with 10. Kelly once again led in assists with a match-high 21. Four Titans accrued double-digit digs, led by Steward with 16. Also earning double-digit digs were Kelly (11), Lampus (11), and Duffy (10).
The Titans will close out the Bearcat Challenge tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match vs. Pitt-Greensburg, followed by a 3 p.m. matchup versus Pitt-Bradford.
