NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team won a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches, including their home-opener, Wednesday night.
Westminster (11-2, 4-0 PAC) won, 3-1, over Geneva (3-9, 0-1 PAC) in its first match. The Titans dominated the first set, winning 25-9. After Geneva snuck out a set two win (25-21), Westminster won set three, 25-14, and set four, 25-21. Seniors
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) and
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) led the Titan offense with double-digit kills with 14 and 12, respectively. Senior
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) orchestrated the offense with a match-high 39 assists. Kelly also registered a team-high 17 digs, to go along with a match-high six aces (tied a career-high). Adelman added a match-high four blocks. Also earning double-digit digs for the Titans were sophomore
Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) (13), sophomore
Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) (13), and Steward (12).
In a rematch of last year's PAC Championship match, the Titans shut out Grove City, 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-16). The Wolverines dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Lampus led the Titan offense with a match-high 13 kills, followed by Steward with 11. Adelman added seven kills and a match-high five blocks (including a career-high four solo blocks). Kelly dished-out a match-high 34 assists. Duffy led the defense with 17 digs, followed by Lampus (14), Steward (13), and Kelly (10).
The Titans will next compete in the two-day Carnegie Mellon Quad, starting with Mount Union (11-1) on Friday, September 24 at 5 p.m.
