PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster volleyball team lost to Mount Union, 3-0, in the first day of the Carnegie Mellon Quad on Friday.
In a back-to-forth first set, Westminster (11-3) held a 20-16 lead and had match point at 25-24, however, Mount Union (12-1) rallied with three-straight points to win 27-25. Set two was another tight one as the Titans were only down 21-19 before Mount Union scored four-straight to win 25-21. The Titans continued to battle in the third set and, after overcoming a 9-point deficit, were only down by two at 19-17. Mount Union, however, once again finished strong with six-straight points to close out the set and the match (25-17).

Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) led the Titan offense with ten kills, followed by sophomore
Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) with seven. Senior
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) orchestrated a 14-assist output with sophomore
Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) registering a career-high 13. Showing a strong defensive presence was sophomore
Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) tallying 27 digs, followed by Kelly with 12.
Westminster is back in action Saturday, September 25 as it concludes the Carnegie Mellon Quad by competing in non-conference matches against Carnegie Mellon at 11 a.m. and Susquehanna at 3 p.m.
