NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster men's soccer team won their season opener, 4-1, against Allegheny College at home on Wednesday.
Westminster got on top early, 1-0, with a score from senior
Tyler Caterino (Monessen, PA / Monessen) in the 14th minute. The Titans were able to build on their momentum in the 36th minute as senior
Nate Taylor (Pittsburgh, PA / Keystone Oaks) scored, assisted by graduate student
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) and senior
Logan Mannheimer (South Park, PA / South Park). Four minutes later, as the first half was coming to an end, senior
Noah Weiss (South Park, PA / South Park) found sophomore
Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, CA / San Dieguito Academy) for a goal and the Titans seized control of the game with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Shane Lisman of the Gators spoiled the shutout by scoring a goal in the 47th minute. As Allegheny tried to put pressure on the Titans' defense for a potential comeback, they would be denied by a multitude of Titan defenders.
