MEADVILLE, Pa. – The defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions Westminster College volleyball team opened their 2021 season with a convincing 3-1 win at non-conference foe Allegheny College Wednesday night.
The Titans won set one, 25-17. After losing set two, 25-15, Westminster finished strong winning set three, 25-14, and set four, 25-22.
Three Titans had double-digit kills, led by senior
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) with a match-high 18 – to go along with a team-high two blocks. Senior
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) registered 12 kills, followed by sophomore
Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) with 10. Senior
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a match- and career-high 46 assists. Kelly also registered a match-high four service aces. Defensively, sophomore
Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) tied a match-high with 17 digs. Steward and Lampus completed the double-double with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
Westminster will meet Allegheny again to start off its four-match trip at the Saint Vincent Invitational starting on Friday, September 3 at 6 p.m.
