Softball: Titans Drop Two Against Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster softball team lost both of their games to Geneva at home in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Wednesday.

Westminster (18-2, 2-2 PAC) lost game one, 8-3, and 5-1 in the nightcap.

In game one, the Titans took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the first inning. Sophomore Alexis Yates (Oakdale, PA / South Fayette) scored the first run with a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI-double by classmate Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel). Geneva (21-3, 4-0 PAC) took the lead in the third inning with three runs, however, Westminster responded in the bottom half of the third with another RBI by Latess. The Golden Tornadoes pulled away with five runs in the fifth inning. Junior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) got her first loss of the season with 4.2 innings of work giving up five earned runs (eight total) with three strike outs.

Geneva jumped out early with five runs in the second inning, which proved too much to overcome for Westminster. Latess got the Titans on the scoreboard with an RBI-double in the fourth. First-year pitcher Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) also received her first loss of the season (9-1), giving up five runs (two earned) with a strike out.

Westminster's win streak ends at 18-straight, second-most in school history.

The Titans are back on the field Saturday, April 10 with a home doubleheader against Thiel. First game is set for 1 p.m.
