NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster softball team swept the Thiel College Tomcats in a home doubleheader on Saturday. The Titans shut out Thiel by mercy rule in both games, taking game one, 9-0, and game two, 13-0.
In game one, Junior
Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) highlighted the day by pitching her first career no-hitter to shut out the Tomcats in her ninth win of the season. Senior
Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) hit an RBI-triple to get Westminster (20-2, 4-2 PAC) out to a 1-0 lead. A two-RBI double courtesy of sophomore
Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) and an RBI-double by sophomore
Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel) in the fourth put the Titans up 4-0 over Thiel (0-20, 0-5 PAC). Westminster went on to score one more run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth, including a two-RBI triple by Atkins.
The Titans came out strong in the second game, scoring six runs in the first inning. Senior
Victoria Pezzuolo (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) hit a triple to bring sophomore
Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) home. Westminster's lineup showed an offensive team effort with eleven players each getting a hit and eight players hitting RBIs. First-year pitcher
Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) picked up her tenth win of the season, leaving the Tomcats scoreless and giving up only two hits in her five-inning effort. Her ten wins tie her for top spot in the PAC rankings.
Westminster will head to Latrobe, Pennsylvania for a PAC doubleheader at Saint Vincent on Wednesday April, 14 starting at 3:30 p.m.
