NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team won, 1-0, against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University at home at the UPMC Sports Complex Tuesday evening.
In the first half, Westminster (4-1, 4-1 PAC) tallied the first goal of the game in the 29
th minute off the right foot of junior
Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor), who fired a shot off a Yellow Jacket defender and into the right portion of the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead, a lead they held into intermission.
Waynesburg (1-4, 1-4 PAC) established a touch of momentum late in the second half, resulting in a corner kick in the 85
th minute, but the Westminster back line held strong and sealed the victory.
Westminster out shot Waynesburg (25-10) for the game and bested the Yellow Jackets in shots on goals (15-4). The Titans also collected more corner kicks (8-3) in the contest. Titan junior goalkeeper
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) earned the shutout, her second of the season, after making four saves in goal.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Friday, April 9 when it takes on Chatham University in a conference matchup at home inside the UPMC Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
