Softball: Titans Sweep Waynesburg Convincingly

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster softball team swept Waynesburg in a road Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday.

Westminster (28-2, 12-2 PAC) won both games convincingly: game one, 8-1, in six innings and game two, 14-5 in five innings – the most runs in a game since Westminster's 16-2 win over Geneva in 2018.

The Titans had an 8-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning in game one, before Waynesburg (12-20, 3-11 PAC) spoiled the shutout with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) had a game-high two RBIs off a two-run triple in the sixth inning. Junior pitcher Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) improved to 13-1 with another dominate performance as she did not give up an earned run and only allowed four hits with four strikeouts in a complete game victory.

In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets took a 3-0 lead with a three-run first inning. The Titans' bats, however, came alive in the third inning with six runs, followed with an 8-run fifth inning.  Bedalota once again had a highlight-reel moment with a two-run home run over the left field fence in the fifth. Bedalota finished with a game-high four RBIs and now has a team-high 44 on the season, one shy from tying a school record (45 - Kailey Liverman, 2016). First-year pitcher Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) improved to 14-1 on the year, allowing five runs off 10 hits and striking out three.

The Titans will host Franciscan in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 28 with game one starting at 3:30 p.m.
