STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Westminster College men's soccer team won, 2-1, against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Franciscan University on the road on Saturday.
Westminster (4-3, 4-3 PAC) seized the lead in the 40
th minute when senior
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) scored off a feed from junior
Sam Accordino (Canfield, OH / Canfield) to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Westminster took that 1-0 lead into intermission. The Titans added an insurance goal in the 81
st minute when Iregui score again to make it 2-0. The insurance goal proved to be the deciding factor, as Franciscan (3-3-1, 3-3-1 PAC) scored in the 87
th minute to make it a one-goal game with limited time remaining.
Westminster outshot the Barons (15-6) and bested them in shots on goal (8-3). Westminster also held the edge in corner kicks (10-5).
Iregui's two goals boosted his season total to six on the season, tied for the league lead. Iregui also leads the PAC in points (16) and is tied for second in assists. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jad Jadallah (Canfield, OH / Canfield) got the win after making a pair of saves in a complete game effort.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Saturday, April 24 when it takes on Geneva College in its final regular season matchup in Beaver Falls. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
