GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team lost, 1-0, in double overtime against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City College on the road Wednesday evening.
In the first half, Westminster (3-1, 3-1 PAC) tallied the first shots on goal of the contest, as Titan sophomore
Sophia Kaplan (Mentor, OH / Mentor) had the only two shots on net in their first half. However, neither shot got past Wolverine goalkeeper Columbia Harkrader and both teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
In the second half, Titan junior
Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor) fired two shots on net to no avail, before Grove City (4-0-1, 4-0 PAC) peppered Titan junior goalkeeper
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) with eight consecutive shots on goal to close out the second half. Holzschuh stopped all eight shots in the half and sent the game to extra time. Neither team managed a shot on net in the first overtime period, before Holzschuh made two more saves in the second overtime frame. Grove City won the game on a corner kick opportunity midway through the second overtime.
Grove City outshot Westminster for the game (22-11) and shots on goal (11-4). The Titans and Wolverines matched each other in corner kicks (2-2). Holzschuh corralled a game-high ten saves in the complete game effort. This marked Holzschuh's second game this season with 10 saves in a contest.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Tuesday, April 6 when it takes on Waynesburg University in a conference matchup inside the UPMC Sports Complex under the lights. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
