Volleyball: Titans Win Sixth Shutout of Season

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster volleyball team earned their sixth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Franciscan at home in the Titans' regular season home finale.

The Titans, who received national votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches of America (AVCA) NCAA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, were led by first-year Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) who registered a match- and career-high 12 kills. Juniors Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) and Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) both had nine kills. Senior Megan Steele (Corry, PA / Corry) added seven kills. Junior Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a match-high 21 assists, while sophomore Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) had 12. Adelman also tallied a match-high five blocks. First-year Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, MI / Lakeview) took advantage of her first collegiate start with a match- and career-high 16 digs. Steward also had double-digits digs with 14.

In the first set, Westminster (8-1, 8-0 PAC) extended its 10-9 lead with a 6-0 run, capped off with a service ace by Kelly. The Titans won set one comfortably, 25-16. The Titans took a double-digit lead in set two at 14-4 with a kill by Adelman. Westminster almost held Franciscan (2-6, 2-6 PAC) to single digits with a 25-10 victory heading into the final set. The third set was a little tighter with Westminster leading 13-10. The Titans, however, orchestrated an 8-3 run, capped off with another Adelman kill and led 21-13. Franciscan cut the lead late to five points (23-18), but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

The Titans are back on the court Wednesday, April 7 with their regular season finale at Waynesburg. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
