BETHANY, W.V. – The Westminster College women's soccer team won, 2-1, against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College for their first road win of the season on Saturday.
In the first half, Westminster (2-0) struck first when sophomore
Sophia Kaplan (Mentor, OH / Mentor) deposited a goal into the back of the net in the 16
th minute. Bethany (0-2) had the answer just eight minutes later, as Riley Meyers scored to knot the game up at one apiece. The score held at 1-1 into intermission. In the second half, Westminster increased the pressure, firing off the first three shots of the period and finally broke through in the 83
rd minute with a goal when to give themselves a 2-1 lead, a lead it would hold for the rest of the contest.
Junior goalkeeper
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) earned the victory in a complete-game effort.
Westminster out shot the Bison for the game (14-2, 8-1 in shots on net). The Titans earned all 11 corner kicks in the contest.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Saturday, March 27 when it returns home to take on the Thiel College Tomcats in a conference matchup at the UPMC Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
