LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College women's lacrosse team lost on the road against the Saint Vincent College Bearcats on Saturday by a score of 10-8.
Saint Vincent (1-0) jumped out to a 5-1 lead early over Westminster (0-1) within the first 15 minutes. The Titans scored their first goal at the 26:48 mark, courtesy of sophomore
Ava Krensky (Bethesda, MD / Walter Johnson). The Titans proceeded to score three consecutive goals, one by sophomore
Stephanie Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) off a pass from senior
Matalyn Holland (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler Area) and two more by Krensky, to end the frame trailing 7-4.
Westminster mounted a strong start to the second half with back-to-back goals by first-year
Samantha Reed (Zionsville, PA / Emmaus) and Krensky to cut the deficit to 7-6. After a Bearcat goal made it 8-6, sophomore
Emiley Kushner (Cecil, PA / Canon-McMillan) brought the Titans within one again (8-7) with a goal at the 10:29 mark. However, Saint Vincent responded with two consecutive goals to secure the victory.
Offensively, Krensky led the Titans with a game-high four goals. On the defensive end, junior
Emma Bradley (South Fayette, PA / South Fayette) led with a game-high seven ground balls, while senior
Cortlynn Douds (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) and junior
Rachel Rohe (Carnegie, PA / Chartiers Valley) each earned one caused turnover. Douds and Cimini each corralled four ground balls. Bradley also finished with a game-high 13 saves in the cage (tying a career-high).
Westminster will be back in action on Sunday, March 21 for its home-opener at the UPMC Sports Complex versus Thiel College for a 4 p.m. matchup.
