Volleyball: Titans Sweep Tomcats, Remain Unbeaten in PAC Play

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster volleyball team shut out Thiel College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-16), at home Saturday morning to remain unbeaten in official conference play.
 
On offense, Westminster (4-1, 4-0 PAC) was led by junior Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) and sophomore Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes), who had a match-high 12 kills each (career-high for Sciubba). Junior Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a match-high 22 assists. Adelman and Sciubba also had two blocks each.  First-year Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) led the defense with a match-high 21 digs, with junior Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) following closely behind with 17 digs and 8 kills. First-year Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) registered eight digs. Adelman also tied the match high with one service ace.
 
The Titans started off strong with an 8-3 lead in the first set before securing a commanding first set victory later on by a score of 25-14. Thiel (2-2, 2-2 PAC), however, hung around in the second set, remaining within just a few points of the Titans the entire set. The Titans once again answered with a victory, edging out the Tomcats, 25-22. Westminster finished the second set with a crucial kill by Lampus. The trend continued in the final stanza, with Thiel registering an early 6-6 tie and Westminster surging ahead with a long run of nine-straight points. The Titans won the third set by a score of 25-16.
 
The Titans will travel to Bethany College (1-3, 1-2 PAC) for their next matchup on Wednesday, March 17 with a 7 p.m. start time.
