GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster women's basketball team lost, 58-52, on the road against Thiel in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
Westminster (2-3, 0-2 PAC) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead with 5:38 left to play in the first quarter, capped off by a two-point jumper by junior
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney). The Titans would extend their lead by eight (12-4) after a layup from junior
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood). Westminster took a two possession to the second quarter (17-12). Thiel (2-6, 1-2 PAC) started off hot in the beginning of the second quarter, scoring the first seven points and taking the lead (19-17). The Tomcats built onto their lead 26-21 with 5:02 remaining in the half. Thiel took a 29-23 lead to intermission.
As the second half started, the Titans fought back to take the lead by scoring eight of the first nine points (31-30) with 8:47 left in the third. The Tomcats and Titans continued to go back and forth with three lead changes in the next two and a half minutes. Westminster built a 41-36 lead with 2:01 left in the third, however, Thiel came back and took a slight lead (42-41) into the fourth. In the final quarter, the Tomcats scored the first seven points to build their lead (49-41) with 5:33 remaining in the game. The Titans fought back but were unable to regain the lead.
The Titans were led by Murrio who recorded a double-double with a season-high 27 points and a career-high 12 boards, to go along two assists. Senior
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) followed with eight points, four rebounds, and three assists. Hergenrother finished with four points, four boards, and three assists.
The Titans are back in action Saturday, December 11 as they host Geneva in a PAC showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
