Women’s Basketball: Hornets Edge Titans in Non-Conference Bout

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster women's basketball team lost, 67-65, at home on Thursday against Shenandoah in a non-conference matchup.
 
Westminster (3-5) jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first after a made free throw from junior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline). At the 2:31 mark, Shenandoah (6-3) captured its first lead of the game (13-11). Senior Magen Polczynski's (Irwin, PA / Norwin) layup gave the Titans a one-point advantage (16-15) heading into the second quarter. As the second quarter started both teams went back and forth as there were three lead changes in the first two and a half minutes of the quarter. The Hornets recaptured the lead and led 29-28 at intermission.
 
At the start of the third quarter, junior Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) caught fire as she scored 13 of the Titans' 24 points in the third to help Westminster carry a two-point lead to the fourth. In the final quarter, sophomore Caitlyn Condoleon (Warren, OH / Warren JFK) hit a pair of three throws to give the Titans a 60-58 with 6:06 left in regulation, however, the Hornets were able regain the lead after two crucial free throws (67-65).
 
The Titans were led by Murrio with a game-high 26 points, a team-best six rebounds, and two assists, followed by classmate Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) with 14 points, a game-high six assists, and a season-best five steals. Bell chipped in with seven points, four boards, and a game-best two blocks.
 
Westminster shot 38.1% (24-63) from the field, 30.4% (7-23) from the three-point line, and 76.9% (10-13) from the free throw line.
 
The Titans are back in action Friday, December 31 as they host Alfred in non-conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
