Men’s Basketball: Titans Drop Road Contest to Transylvania

LEXINGTON, K.Y. – The Westminster men's basketball team lost, 75-70, on the road against Transylvania in a non-conference matchup on Saturday.
 
Westminster (3-1) gained the early advantage in the first half (13-8) after a three-pointer from senior Anthony Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range). The Titans extended their lead to nine (19-8) as sophomore Reese Leone (Beloit, OH / West Branch) found the bottom of the net on a mid-range jumper with 11:08 left in the first. Transylvania (2-1) fought back to tie the game at 21 with 7:38 to play in the first. In the last 7 minutes and 18 seconds of the first half, there were five lead changes as neither team could pull ahead. The Pioneers led 37-33 at intermission.
 
As the second half started, Westminster was able to build momentum, however, the Pioneers stayed one step ahead as they answered the Titans scoring and notched their biggest lead of eight (55-47). Westminster tied the game at 57 from a three-pointer off Leone and then took the lead on the following possession as Leone once again connected from downtown (60-57) with 6:06 to play. Transylvania pulled away (71-64) and rode the momentum to salvage a win.
 
Senior guard Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) led the Titans with 17 points to go along with seven boards, three assists and one steal, followed by his brother senior Anthony Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) with 12 points, four assists, two steals, and one rebound. Sophomore Andrew Clark (New Middletown, OH / Springfield Local) recorded 12 points, tied a team-high eight boards, and a game-best four blocks. Leone finished with ten points and a game-high seven assists.
 
Westminster shot 46.4 % (26-56) from the field, 32.0 % (8-25) from beyond the arc, and 76.9 % (10-13) from the charity stripe.
 
The Titans are back on the court Wednesday, December 1 as they host Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
