NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster women's tennis team won, 8-1, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City to remain undefeated on the season at home Tuesday afternoon.
The win snapped a seven-match skid to the Wolverines with Westminster's last win over Grove City coming on Oct. 8, 2016.
Westminster (7-0, 5-0 PAC) won five singles matches, led by first-year
Emma Sukal (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) at No. 1, winning 6-2, 6-4. Sukal teamed up with classmate first-year
Gia Francisco (Canfield, OH / Canfield) for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
Sophomore
Caroline Fox (Acton, CA / Vasquez) won a hard-fought match at No. 5 singles, 6-7 (0-3), 6-2, 10-4, while the No. 2 duo of senior
Sara Small (Beaver, PA / Beaver) and junior
Sabrina Slagle (Upper St. Clair, PA / Upper St. Clair) won a close 8-5 match.
Grove City dropped to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The Titans will next compete at Penn State Behrend (6-1) Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
