LEESBURG, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team continued their Russmatt Tournament schedule on Monday, dropping two games to Husson University (ME) by scores of 11-0 in game one and 11-6 in game two.
In game one, Husson (3-4), the preseason North Atlantic Conference (NAC) favorites, jumped on Westminster (2-2) with four runs in the first inning. In the third frame, Husson added two more runs to make the score 6-0. The Eagles went on to tally five more runs in the contest.
Senior
Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley) led the Titans with a pair of hits. Senior
Emilio Rivera (Tampa, FL / Armwood) got the start, as he tossed three innings, scattered five hits, three earned runs and one strikeout. Sophomore
Logan Minch (Grove City, PA / Grove City Area) tossed two innings and gave up one earned run, while freshman
Mike Brilla (Burton, OH / Berkshire) recorded a scoreless inning in his collegiate debut.
In game two, Husson started similarly, as it scored the first nine runs in to lead over the Titans 9-0 after three innings. In the top of the fourth, Westminster responded with three runs to make the score 9-3 in favor of the Eagles. The Titans tallied two more runs in the fifth inning, before Husson scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Senior
Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) and sophomore
Logan Alaniz (Clermont, FL / Lake Minneola) each tied a team-high with two hits. Senior
Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) had one hit, one run scored and a team-high three RBI's. Freshman
Frankie Manios (Warren, OH / Howland) finished 2.2 innings pitched, scattering seven hits and giving up three earned runs. Senior Marcus Master (Warren, OH / Warren G Harding) made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and giving up two hits in the process.
The Titans will continue the Russmatt Tournament on Wednesday when they take on Wells College (NY) in a single, nine-inning game starting at 5 PM.
