Baseball: Titans Roll Past Wells in Russmatt Tournament Game

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team continued their Russmatt Tournament schedule on Wednesday, winning against Wells College (NY) by a score of 12-4.

Westminster (3-2) got on the board in the first inning when senior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) singled to centerfield to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. The Titans led 2-1 after four innings. In the fifth frame, Wells (3-4) scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Westminster responded in the sixth inning with four runs to take a 6-4 lead. The Titans blew the game open in the seventh inning with five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run by sophomore Dawson Porter (Kittanning, PA / Armstrong) to put the game out of reach.

Johnson led with a game-high three hits and a pair of RBIs. Porter followed with two hits, including the homerun and a game-high five RBIs. Sophomore Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) finished with two hits and a pair of runs scored. The Titans gave up zero earned runs in the contest, as senior Marcus Masters (Warren, OH / Warren G Harding), sophomores Brandon Cooper (Oakdale, PA / West Allegheny) and Zach Zeis (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland) and freshmen Hunter Stellato (Struthers, OH / Struthers) and Nick Miller (Uniontown, OH / Lake) combined for the winning-effort, with Stellato picking up the victory. 

The Titans will continue the Russmatt Tournament tommorow when they take on Olivet College in a single, nine-inning game starting at 9:30 AM.
