AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team continued their Russmatt Tournament schedule on Thursday, winning against Olivet College (MI) by a score of 15-8.
The Titans scored a season-high 15 runs in the contest and set a season-high with 18 hits.
Westminster (4-2) got the bats rolling immediately out of the gates, as it plated eight runs in the first inning and forced Olivet's (3-8) starting pitcher out of the game. In the bottom half of the first inning, the Comets plated seven runs of their own to make the score 8-7 after one inning. In the top of the fourth inning, the Titans tacked on three more runs capped off by an RBI-single by sophomore
Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area) to extend their lead to 11-7. The Titans tacked on four more runs in the contest to seal the victory.
Sophomore
Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) led the way with a career-high four hits, to go along with four RBI's and a pair of runs scored. Costello followed with three hits and three RBI's. Senior
Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley), sophomores
Ryan Jolin (Williamsport, PA / Williamsport Area),
Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth),
Blake Buckley (Cedar Key, FL / Florida Virtual School) and
Dawson Porter (Kittanning, PA / Armstrong) each earned a pair of base knocks. Porter and Buckley each registered three runs scored, while Johnson scored a pair of runs.
Sophomore
Logan Minch (Grove City, PA / Grove City Area) recorded the victory, as he tossed five scoreless innings after giving up seven runs in the first inning. Minch scattered seven hits, seven earned runs and tallied six strikeouts. Senior
Emilio Rivera (Tampa, FL / Armwood) and Johnson closed out the final three innings for the Titans.
The Titans will conclude the Russmatt Tournament tomorrow when they take on the Wentworth Institute of Technology in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 9:30 AM.
