ALTOONA, Pa. - The Westminster College men's tennis team won, 7-2, against non-conference opponent Penn State Altoona University on Sunday at the Summit Tennis and Athletic Club.
Westminster (3-2) won two out of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matchups over Penn State Altoona (1-6). The team of junior
Miguel Ascencio (Venitia, PA / Peters Township) and freshman
Jimmy Oberlin (DuBois, PA / DuBois Area) scored a victory at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6. Ascencio and Oberlin each earned victories at No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively by scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
Sophomores
Noah Weiss (South Park, PA / South Park) and Logan Mannheimer (South Park, PA / South Park) picked up the other doubles victory at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-2. Mannheimer also won his match at No. 3 singles by a score of 7-6, 6-2. Junior
Collin Kelly won his match at No. 5 singles by a score of 7-6, 6-4, while freshman
George Oliver (Pittsburgh, PA / Quaker Valley) rounded out the day with a 7-5, 6-4 victory in No. 6 singles.
Westminster will be back in action on Monday, March 9 when it travels to Hilton Head, South Carolina for its Spring Break trip, starting with a matchup against Carroll (WI).
