NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's lacrosse team won, 13-10, over Division II West Virginia Wesleyan in the Titans' home-opener Saturday afternoon.
Titan senior Bria Braddock (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) led all scorers with eight goals. First-year Ava Krensky (Bethesda, MD / Walter Johnson) followed with four goals, while junior Michaela Hays (Blairsville, PA / Blairsville) earned a goal.
Westminster (1-1), who never trailed in the game, led 7-4 at halftime. The Titans took their largest lead of the game with a goal to start the second half, off the stick of Braddock, for an 8-4 lead. West Virginia Wesleyan cut Westminster's lead to one goal twice, with the latest coming at 10-9 with 9:44 remaining. The Titans did not let the Bobcats get any closer, outscoring them 3-1 (all goals courtesy of Braddock) for the rest of the game.
The Titans held a 35-25 advantage in ground balls, led by Braddock with 12. Braddock also gathered in a game-high 10 draw controls (in which Westminster led 14-10) and earned a game-high seven caused turnovers. First-year Stephanie Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) added five ground balls and an assist.
Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Emma Bradley (South Fayette, PA / South Fayette) earned the complete-game win, while collecting nine saves.
The Titans are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Medaille College (NY) with a 5 p.m. start time.
