Women’s Basketball: Titans Fall to Bearcats at Home

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team fell to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Saint Vincent College by a score of 66-51 at home on Wednesday. 
 
Westminster (11-3, 4-1 PAC) fell behind Saint Vincent (8-5, 4-0 PAC) by a score of 16-7 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, the Titans trailed 22-12 with 6:53 left in the period before mounting a 10-2 run, capped off by a three by junior guard Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) to make the score 24-22 with 4:38 left in the half. Saint Vincent rattled off a 7-0 run of its own to make the score 31-22 at halftime. Westminster trimmed the Bearcats' lead to 41-39 at the end of the quarter when sophomore forward Megan Meyer (New Galilee, PA / Mohawk) buried a three pointer as time expired. Saint Vincent outscored the Titans 25-12 in the fourth quarter to claim the victory.
 
Westminster shot 37.3% (19-51) from the field and 41.2% (7-17) from beyond the arc, while Saint Vincent had a 35.5% (22-62) field goal percentage and was 38.9% (7-18) from three. The Titans bested the Bearcats on the glass, 40-36.
 
Greaves led the way for Westminster with a team-high 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior forward Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds and notched six blocks. Senior guard Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) tallied eight points, while sophomore guard Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) grabbed five rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists.
 
Westminster will be back on the court on Saturday, January 11 when it takes on Geneva College in a conference matchup on the road at 1 p.m.
